PROFILE
Jess was the founder CEO/CTO of ComDais.com.
He has strong business development skills and contacts in the areas of team
building, partnering, marketing, sales and venture capital. He
was the architect of ComDais's groundbreaking XML/SOAP interface for the Ariba
eMarketplace platform. Jess holds several recent eCommerce patents and has over
20 years experience as a professional software engineer and many successful
projects to his credit. At ComDais he raised $6.5 M in funding and worked closely
with strategic partners, Office.com and Winstar on joint development projects.
ComDais met every milestone on time and under budget. The ComDais SMB eMarketplace
was fielded and successfully supported over 1 million customers; the company
was valued at over $60 million before the bubble burst.
Prior to founding ComDais Jess worked at Tradex as the Sr Project Manager and Core Engineering Team Leader. He was the 40th employee specifically hired to help Tradex grow into a mature professional company positioned to go public. A year and a half later Tradex was sold to Ariba for $1.78 billion, making it the single largest software only acquisition in history.
Earlier in his career Jess was VP of Engineering and a member of the board of the English company, Firefox Communications, Novell’s worldwide OSI partner, and help take the company public and then sold to FTP. At the time he was responsible for all of both Novell and USL’s OSI products in Red Box end user binaries and to most major UNIX vendors as source code.
Long-term
focus for Jess is to become an industry respected eJournalist and Author with
a focus on technology. Jess has been involved in many projects and startups
focusing on application development and consequently has strong knowledge of
both third and fourth generation programming languages and tools. He remains
current with leading edge skills with classes @ the U of U and building sites

Jess worked with a startup, creating a remote Internet based backup and configuration management system.

properly in several of its major functions, such as group deletes. Upgrade the
compiler to the Watcom 11 version, and establish a source level debug environment
for NLMs.

did contract development projects for the government and had an online subscription
service, ITACS. ITACS was a database of the Federal Government Supply Catalog.
ITACS contained information on everything the Federal had every bought, from
who and cost data. Came to ITI as a Sr. Software Engineer, after three months
was promoted to Director of Engineering.
• Converted COBAL mainframe based ITACS database to C and Informix on
XENIX.
• Developed CD-ROM based version of ITACS for DOS utilizing C-Tree database.
• Managed the JTFP project for the Army - utilizing Interactive UNIX,
as Data Base Concentrator. This system would connect to seven different remote
databases, format quires and provide a compound rationalized result.
• Managed TAMMIS project for the Army - an HP-UX hosted Computer Based
Training (CBT) Authoring system.

Sysorex was a new "beltway bandit", positioned to do Federal Government
Contracting for PC and networking products.
• Was trained in dissecting a federal RFP and developing a wining proposal.
• Was responsible for developing the technical approach and wrote the
major sections of Sysorex's first winning proposal, the USDA NASS project, a
$45 million contract for PCs and NetWare LANs.
• Did research and evaluation on PC based LAN Operating systems, including
installation and test of Novell NetWare, 3Com 3+ Open (LAN Manager), FTP TCP/IP
and Banyan Networking.
• Set-up a forty workstation, two fileserver network and ran extensive
benchmarking. Did vendor selection, was the primary interface with many vendors
and arranged numerous equipment loans for evaluation.

This was a service company that worked on many different projects, often being
called in on an emergency basis. Including design of add-on cards for the IBM
XT/AT/RT, the Apple Macintosh II.
• Did the FCC emissions design rework on 9 different PC add-on products
and got their certification.
• Created a standard IBM AT/RT interface design and took the design through
the process of becoming a custom ASIC.
• Designed a Macintosh II interface in PAL, programmed in PLASM.
• Wrote real time firmware for embedded communications systems in Intel
80186 and 8051 assembly language.

for two serial communication board designs.

Mainstream was a start-up formed to create a new nation wide wireless point
to multi-point, multicasting, wireless data communications network, utilizing
satellite and a custom modulated error correcting FM Radio sideband, SCA.
• Was Project Manager, for the IDR, Intelligent Data Receiver. Managed
the development team that included six employees, two contract design firms,
a custom gate array manufacture, an injection mold maker and plastics manufacture,
a contract manufacture and an FCC testing contractor.
• Contributed to the network design, utilizing ISO model layer protocol.
• Designed the architecture of the IDR, hardware. Designed the motherboard,
a single board multiprocessor computer that included the Intel's 80188 and Motorola's
68HC11, a shared memory processor interface and many I/O devices.
• Designed test set-up and wrote test software in MS C for the manufacturing
line.
• Successfully managed the project through to completion including first
manufacturing run and FCC certification.

Gestalt was a start-up formed to do contract design and later moved into products
with the Peace of Mind System, a security, control and speech system that was
an add-on to the PC.
• Designed a Atari compatible disk drive, hardware and software, utilizing
Zilog Z8 and ZENIX (Zilog UNIX System) Z8 assembly language cross-compiler.
• Designed the hardware, wrote applications program in C.
• Wrote parts of the business and marketing plan and helped acquired venture
capital. Exhibited the system at COMDEX.

Development Engineer
Sunnyvale, CA
Atari was in its heyday as the premiere video games company and was trying to
establish the home computer market.
• Came to Atari as a Sr. Diagnostic Engineer, to establish a Software
/ Hardware Diagnostic Development Lab. Designed field diagnostic, the SALT II
diagnostic cartridge, to support the 400/800/1200 computer, in 6502 assembler.
• Was promoted to Sr. R & D Engineer and joined a new design group
in Atari Corporate Research, lead by Dr. Ted Hoff and Dr. Alan Kay, to create
a multiprocessor DOS/UNIX notebook computer, the Sierra Project. Was assigned
to the hardware team, later to become Hardware Team Leader.
• Designed CPU and DRAM sections utilizing Intel 80286 and 8088. He worked
with Paul Wells, Chief Architect of the 80286 to debug first release of silicone.
Because of speed requirements he did the DRAM Controller in discrete 74AS parts,
the design was later converted to ASIC and was used by Commodore in the Amiga.
• Managed the Amy, custom sound chipset, and Rainbow, custom graphics
chipset, groups as a sub-section of the hardware team. The Amy chipset was later
sold to Commodore and was used in Amiga.
• Was introduced to UNIX learned kernel programming and the C language.
• Was the system administrator for a Zilog Unix box, which he helped setup,
maintain and use as an ARPAnet node, (predecessor to the Internet).

Commodore was a leading supplier of early microprocessor based computer systems.
• Contributed to the design of the sound system on the Commodore 64.
• Wrote a complete diagnostic package, in BASIC and 6502 assembler for
factory final test and worldwide field service.
9/80 2/81 NASA Ames Research Center
- Microcomputer Engineer (Contract) Mt. View, CA
NASA was involved in the joint Soviet / American project to put primates in
space and study their biorhythms. The objective was to monitor the activity
of monkeys in space, in the hopes of coming to a better understanding of the
causes of space sickness in astronauts. The monkeys and equipment were the responsibility
of our team and they were to ride in a Soviet Sputnik satellite.
• Did research in the monitoring hardware, resulting in a system of Piezoelectric
plastic sensors acting as accelerometers to monitor movement.
• Wrote several programs, in Apple II BASIC and 6502 assembler, to retrieve
the data from flight data loggers and translate it to graphs showing activity
periods, sleep periods and space sickness.
3/80 9/80 Rockwell International - Digital Design Engineer (Contract)
D.O.E. Wind Test Site, Golden, CO
Rockwell was the prime contractor for a D.O.E. funded wind energy research project.
• Designed an early local area network, utilizing RS422 communications
to achieve 6000+ feet data links. The network was set up to do data acquisition
from 35 windmill sites. Utilizing Control Logic 8080 microcomputers doing remote
24 hour data collection and then communicating via a polling sequence system
to the master concentrators, two Data General Nova minicomputers and then uploaded
